Adding a perennial difficult pitch into the equation meant that a tricky assignment lay ahead. In the event, The Lane put in a dominant performance that ensured all three points returned to Tithe Farm. The visitors started the game on the front foot from the very first minute, keeping the ball for long periods and making regular inroads towards the Chalfont goal. As early as the sixth minute they thought they had taken the lead when Bradley Bubb hit the post from close range and it seemed to defy logic when his effort somehow stayed out of the Chalfont net. Rayners only had to wait another ten minutes to break the deadlock when Bubb ran into the box and pulled the ball back for Sean Shields to finish from six yards. Rayners continued to press and were rewarded in the 22nd minute when a short corner was passed to Aaron Minhas, completely unmarked on the bye line six yards from goal, and he set up Rio Connell for a simple finish. The half went on in a similar pattern with Rayners Lane controlling the game and Bradley Bubb will be disappointed that he didn’t get his name on the score sheet in the 36th minute when he was through on goal but put his shot to close to keeper Tom Clark who parried his effort away. For the start of the second half manager Gary Meakin replaced Troy Perez-Duah and Kyle Reid with Hassan Jollah and Frank Keita. It took them five minutes to get back into their stride but when they did it felt like only a matter of time before they increased their advantage, although before they did Chalfont did manage their first effort on target when Sam Beasant gathered a tame free-kick. On the hour mark Elliott Buchannan replaced Bubb and within seconds the substitute had an effect firing in a free-kick that was deflected onto the post by Clark. Rio Connell was quickest to react and blasted home the rebound for his second goal of the game. Despite having the lion’s share of the possession and territory, Rayners Lane had to wait until the 80th minute to increase their lead. It was Sean Shields who got the goal with a trademark jink into the box and a low finish into the left hand corner. Chances came and went as the game moved into additional time before Buchannan added a fifth. A typical lung busting run into the box from skipper Minhas saw him cross for Elliott to finish into the bottom corner, rounding off an emphatic win. Come On The Lane! Rayners Lane – 1.
