Rayners Lane saw off the challenge of Tithe Farm tenants Broadfields United in a game that, for the most parts, they held their opponents at arm’s length. Broadfields came into the game on the back of a disappointing defeat to lowly Chalfont St. Peter but as with most visitors to Tithe Farm so far this season, they raised their game for this encounter. Rayners got off to an ideal start when Marco Correia made a timely tackle on the edge of his own box and quickly fed the ball to Rio Connell. A Broadfields defender came across to try and tackle the live wire wide man but was left floundering as Rio burst into the box and squared the ball invitingly for Bradley Bubb but his effort was blocked as was Elliott Buchanan’s subsequent attempt. Fortunately Kyel Reid was on hand to provide the finish with a shot from eight yards out. Broadfields had an opportunity to draw level only a few minutes later but the effort was wayward. Rayners then got their second midway through the first half and it was a fantastic solo effort from Bradley Bubb. The experienced forward twisted and turned on the edge of the visitors penalty box before sending a curling shot into the top right corner of the net, giving the Blues keeper, Bradley Shaw, absolutely no chance. Broadfields huffed and puffed for the rest of the half without troubling Rayners Lane custodian Jack Smith. The second half began much as the first half had ended until about ten minutes in when Connor Spinks netted from close range to reduce the arrears. The same player almost scored a ‘goal of the season’ contender shortly after when his speculative volley from the halfway line rebounded to safety off the Rayners Lane post.  That was as close as Broadfields got to an equalizer as Rayners Lane saw the game out with no alarms and in fact will be disappointed not to have increased their lead when Frank Keita was put through on goal with just the keeper to beat but put the chance wide.
